Ar. Jabeen L. Zacharias, the 17th National and 1st lady president of IIID engages in a spirited colloquy with Dr. Rema S Kartha (Co – Editor, Inscape) and shares her vision and dream for the new term. Jabeen L Zacharias is a well known Architect and Interior Designer of National repute. A native of Kerala, she graduated in Architecture from Trivandrum and did her higher studies in Interior Design at New York. She heads the firm Jabeen Zacharias Architects at Cochin with satellite offices at New York, and Bangalore. The practice has a unique project profile spanning star hotels/resorts for Le Meridien, Leela, Taj, Kerala Tourism Corporation etc to museums for World Bank, title showrooms for Ford, Samsung, offices & banks, commercial complexes, institutions, and of course residences ranging from that of the Finance Minister of Oman to an ordinary house help. She believes in the power of Design to change the world and does it with passion across typologies and contexts. Apart from being a full fledged Architect and Interior Designer, Jabeen is also a multifaceted artist and activist. Theatre, music, dance, painting, sketching, writing have all been favored which contributes to the wholeness of ‘her architecture. She was a Professor in Architecture at The College of Engineering Trivandrum, and now visiting faculty at various colleges within the country and abroad. Ar Jabeen is the recipient of many coveted awards and her projects have been widely featured and published in prominent magazines and journals across the country. As a Leader she has been very active on professional platforms like the Institute of Indian Interior Designers- IIID, and Indian Institute of Architects- IIA, holding many key posts at Chapter and National levels for the past 28 years. Jabeen is married to architect Lalichan Zacharias and has three daughters- Aatira (Architect) married to Bhyrav (Architect), Utharaa (Furniture Designer USA), and Aisswarya (Visual Communications Designer)
